How to get to the Lorentz Center

Arrival by train

Take a train to Leiden CS ("Central Station") (10 minutes from Den Haag, 35 from Amsterdam, 30 from Rotterdam, 45 from Utrecht, 20 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol airport). From the train station, you can either walk along the Rijnsburgerweg and the Wassenaarseweg (30 minutes, follow the (map), or take a bus (see below). If you take a taxi (costs ~Dfl 15.-), tell the driver to go to the Huygens Laboratory, which is better known than the Oort Building. The Huygens Laboratory is a tall building covered with black panels. The Lorentz Center is at the third floor of the Oort building, which is the slanted building in front of it.

Bus service

A `strippenkaart' of 15 units (Leiden Central Station-Lorentz Center is 2 units) can be bought at the railway station (Dfl 11.75)

Bus 30 from Leiden Central Station to the Lorentz Center, direction Oegstgeest: get out at the stop "Rekencentrum", just before a sharp curve to the right. Three minutes later the same bus reaches stop "Endegeest", Hotel Het Witte Huis is a little bit further on the right. Times: 7:17, 7:47, each half hour until 18:47, then 19:16 and 19:46.

Bus 43 from Leiden Central Station to the Lorentz Center (direction Den Haag CS): get out at the stop "Universiteitsterrein", near a round lecture hall with a red roof. Times: 7:10, 7:40, each half hour until 18:40, then 19:07, 19:37, 20:37, 21:07, 22:07, 23:07, 00:07.

Bus 30 from the Lorentz Center (busstop "Rekencentrum" at the Wassenaarseweg) to Leiden Central Station. Times: 7:02, 7:33, each half hour until 19:03, then 19:32, 20:02. The same bus is at busstop "Endegeest", close to Hotel Het Witte Huis, three minutes earlier.

Bus 43 from the Lorentz Center (busstop "Universiteitsterrein" at the Einsteinweg) to Leiden Central Station. Times: 6:45, 7:15, 7:46, 8:01, 8:30, 9:00, each half hour until 15:00, then 15:32, each half hour until 18:32, then 19:00, 19:28, each half hour until 20:58, then 21:28, 22:28, 23:28, 0:28.

Arrival by car

How to get to the Lorentz Center if you come by car from Utrecht or Rotterdam/Den Haag:

How to find the Lorentz Center on the campus

You always keep left, remaining on Einsteinweg, till you reach a round-about, where you turn right towards Max Planckweg. Take the third small road to the left, immediately before a small water, a row of trees, a bike path and the main road, and continue till you reach the second parking place again on the left. Beyond the parking place you see a grey inclined building of five storeys, the newly built Oort building beside the well-known Huygens-Lab. The Lorentz Center is on the third floor of the Oort building.

Parking

There is sufficient parking space at the Lorentz Center. Parking space in the inner city is scarce and expensive. Free parking close to the inner city after 18 h (thursday after 21 h) and on sunday: at Molen de Valk (the windmill close to Cafe van der Werff) and immediately outside Morspoort (one of the old city gates).

From the hotels to the Lorentz Center

From the hotels in the centre of Leiden, the best thing to do is to walk to the railway station and take a bus (see under `arrival by train') from there.
