The Dynamics of the Local Group

I'll discuss the past and future dynamical evolution of the Local Group based on new constraints from the Pan Andromeda Archaeological Survey (PAndAS). The observation that M33 is warped and tidally disturbed implies a close and recent encounter with M31. We can therefore use this fact to constrain the proper motion of M31 and so determine the orbit of M31 and the Milky-Way. We explore the implications for the total mass in the Local Group and the past and future evolution of this system.
