The Impact of Massive Binaries Throughout the Universe
    from 29 Jun 2015 through 3 Jul 2015

Description and Aim

Massive stars play a major role throughout the Universe. A large majority will interact with a binary companion before their final explosion. Such interaction can have drastic consequences for individual systems. Yet, our understanding of the implications for entire stellar populations, nearby and at high redshift, remains in its infancy.

We will bring together theorists and observers from different areas of astrophysics to address the question how binarity affects the role of massive stars as “cosmic engines” (their radiative, mechanical and chemical feedback) and as “cosmic probes” (the observational diagnostics).
