Can you tell us something about your professional background?
Sure, I've taken a few different paths in my career. I started with (and completed) a young professional development program at a large logistics multinational, took a side turn to a global provider in flexible workspaces and ended up working for the Red Cross for a very long time. Because of private issues, I decided to free-lance for a while but soon enough missed working with coworkers and a common goal. That is how I ended up at this University.
Why did you choose this position?
In my former position I was once at a meeting at SRON (opposite Lorentz Center!) with Airbus and several University colleagues. One of them was a Lorentz Center employee who truly inspired me with her story about the Center’s work.
You have now been working at the Lorentz Center for a few weeks. What are your first impressions?
What a great team! The people are obviously the heart of the organization.
Operational Manager is a new role within the Lorentz Center; what does this position entail exactly entail?
As Operations Manager of the Lorentz Center, I am ultimately responsible for the operational management of the organization. I serve as a key point of contact for the approximately 3,000 scientists who participate in our annual scientific workshops, and I coordinate developments within the yearly workshop program with relevant colleagues. I lead the team of scientific coordinators and workshop coordinators, and act as a sparring partner to the Scientific Director of the Lorentz Center.
What do you hope to contribute to the organization?
Exactly just that (see answer to previous question) and a little more.
Hope to help innovate/develop our new location, hope to keep uplifting the team and be there for them, and I want to further raise awareness of the work of Lorentz Center.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Apparently I have a lot of energy, which I can burn off by playing tennis, padel, doing fitness and walking the dog.
