Organized by Gunther Cornelissen and Frans Oort (Universiteit Utrecht, Mathematisch Instituut)
The study of symmetries of mathematical objects is at the very center of mathematical activity. One basic example is the theory of group actions on algebraic curves, and this field in particular has witnessed several exciting developments during the last few years. These have lifted the topic to a new level of sophistication. In this workshop we will discuss these latest developments and the questions that arise from them, with a moderately sized group of participants. We hope that this will activate them to contribute further to this timely subject.
Topics include: deformation theory, lifting to characteristic zero, relation to moduli of curves, patching method, techniques from fundamental groups, equivariant families, non-archimedean uniformization, and group theoretic aspects.
