Quantum Information science has established itself as a major field of modern research. Impressive progress has been made towards implementing some of the quantum information protocols, in particular those for quantum communication. There is however a serious worry about the feasibility of large-scale quantum computation. Overcoming quantum decoherence will be the main experimental challenge for many years to come. Therefore it will be crucial to have a clear understanding of what causes quantum decoherence in the various systems under consideration and how to reduce their impact by error correction schemes. This workshop is intended to have an emphasis on the fundamental aspects of decoherence and brings together experts and graduate students that are actively working in this field.

Topics covered by the workshop are:

Models of Quantum Decoherence Decoherence in Superconducting Qubits Decoherence and Quantum Computing with Ions and Atoms             Decoherence, Entanglement and Spin in Quantum Dots Quantum States of Mesoscopic and Macroscopic Systems
