Circular Food Systems: Connecting Green and Blue

The workshop promotes integration of terrestrial and aquatic food systems into a sustainable “turquoise” circular economy by advancing nutrient cycling, sustainability assessment, and food safety while fostering cross-sector collaboration, innovation, and early-career researcher engagement to build resilient, climate-smart food systems.

It will bring together leaders, early-career researchers, NGOs, and stakeholders from terrestrial and aquatic food sectors to explore sustainable resource management and accelerate the transition to “turquoise” circular food systems. It will foster cross-sector knowledge exchange, strengthen collaboration, and establish a lasting network that serves as both a scientific community and an incubator for innovation. By identifying opportunities, barriers, and practical next steps, participants will develop a shared roadmap for creating resilient, safe, nutritious, and sustainable food production systems.

The workshop combines thematic and plenary sessions to promote in-depth discussion, cross-group exchange, and broad stakeholder engagement. Four working groups will develop concrete outcomes on turquoise food system typologies, sustainability assessment methods, nutrient fluxes, and food safety, creating a shared foundation for future collaboration and innovation.
