Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations describing Front Propagation and other Singular Phenomena

Nonlinear partial differential equations are the language in which the laws of nature are written. This is the midtermmeeting of the RTN network Fronts-Singularities, which focusses on topics such as

Mathematical models for combustion Singularities in superconductivity, liquid crystals, and micromagnetism Front propagation in biological and chemical systems Coating flows and thin liquid films Interfaces in phase transitions Blow-up problems PDE's with singular data

The main research objectives of the network are to develop new methods for nonlinear PDE's and to make substantial contributions to the solution of concrete problems suggested by applications. The workshop provides an opportunity for the young scientists in the network to present their research on a variety of concrete problems in the above fields, to exchange ideas and to learn new and complementary techniques. A selected group of experts has been invited to give overview lectures on the methods developped and the recent progress made in these application areas.
