School on Fundamentals of the Universe

11 - 14 April 2023

Venue: Lorentz Center@Oort

If you are invited or already registered for this workshop, you have received login details by email.

The goal of this school bringing together students and postdocs who work on topics bridging mathematics, physics and astronomy. There will be lectures on the following four themes

  1. Symmetries in mathematics, physics and astronomy
  2. Machine learning across physics, mathematics and astronomy
  3. Black holes as quantum systems and standard candles/seeds of structure formation
  4. From quantum fluctuations to the first structures

The school will emphasize how to efficiently communicate when working on these cross-disciplinary areas, where jargon can be an obstacle. The format of the school will consist of a series of 45 min lectures, and currently we plan to cover most topics for one day each. During midday, the participants will have ample time to discuss with peers. There will be no homework but there will be a group assignment in the form of writing an interdisciplinary project proposal that will be presented on the final day.
