This workshop brings together linguists from across subfields (formal linguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, philosophy of language) to explore a shared question: can the interactional repertoire of non-human animals be understood through the lens of linguistic theory — and if so, what does that mean for linguistics, and academia in a broader sense? Our goal is not debate, but to think together, across specializations and despite friction, about where this inquiry could take us.
