This workshop has been rescheduled to 19 - 23 July 2021
Description
Some of the greatest outstanding questions in the study of galaxies involve how galaxies transition from star-forming to quiescent, and what processes act to shut down star formation and keep it suppressed. Both multi-wavelength observations and simulations have made great progress in identifying mechanisms to “quench” star formation across a variety of conditions. However, many questions remain about how the proposed mechanisms act in real galaxies, given the complexities of their multi-phase reservoirs for star-forming and potentially star-forming gas.
Questions
A growing body of research suggests that the “quenching” of galaxies, the point when their star formation ends, does not mark the end of their gas evolution. This had led to further questions, such as:
We propose a workshop to gather observers and simulators across the fields of star formation, active galactic nuclei, and evolution through the quenching phase in order to foster cross-discipline communication and plan observational and computational projects to investigate these issues.
